X Factor app launches on Ovi

The X Factor has launched an exclusive mobile app for the Ovi Store that can keep Nokia users up to date with developments on the talent show.

The free app is compatible with high-end Nokia devices, including its flagship N8 device, which will launch later this month.

The Royal Mail has launched the world’s first ’intelligent stamp’ that works with iPhone and Android apps using augmented reality technology.

The stamp is part of Royal Mail’s Great British Railways collection and uses image-recognition technology to direct users towards online content created by Royal Mail.

Users have to download the Junaio app and select the Royal Mail channel to activate the service.

Apple has claimed that its music-focused social media service Ping has signed up 1 million users less than two days after its commercial launch.

The new service lets users follow their favourite artists and share playlists with friends via the iTunes account similar to the social functions on music streaming service Spotify.

BBC streams 5.3m shows a month to iPhone users

The BBC streamed 5.3m programmes to Apple devices in July, according to statistics released by the broadcaster. Web developer Ben Griffiths obtained the statisitcs following a freedom of information request, which revealed that an average of 230,016 Apple mobile device users accessed the BBC iPlayer each week during July.
